We left Cameron, M0 around 6:00 am heading for St. Joe where we crossed the Missouri River into Kansas. This morning brought a welcome chilly 45 degree temp after the 93 temps we saw yesterday. We rode the rolling plains of northern Kansas following Hwy 36, known as "The Pony Express Highway." Kansas and Nebraska have had more than their normal share of rain this year and everything is uncharacteristically green and beautiful for this time of year.
Near the Pony Express Museum - Marysville, KSAt Marysville,KS we turned north, crossing into southeast Nebraska. Our only National Park today was Homestead National Monument at Beatrice NE.

An original stagecoach. I was amazed at how small they were.
Taking a break at a Nebraska roadside park.Leaving Homestead National Monument, we followed Hwy 136 (The Heritage Highway) westward across southern Nebraska. The wind and temperatures steadily increased as we rode west. By late afternoon we had fought a high cross wind for the past two hundred and fifty miles and were more than ready to quit when we arrived at our motel in Ogallala, NE.

"An adventure is never an adventure when it's happening. Challenging experiences need time to ferment, and an adventure is simply physical and emotional discomfort recollected in tranquillity."--From "Near Massacre Ranch" by Tim Cahill
Welcome to life on the road. Some days the wind blows. I'm starting to feel a little better I went outside for about 10 minutes. It's after a day like you had today and you get to the motel people have that look that Ted on his face I always say tomorrow will be an easy day.
