AK Trip - Day Thirty Three - Wednesday, July 18th.,

Tacoma, WA

Today Ted and I caught up a bit on our rest in the morning. Our motel did not have laundry services so that chore was put off for another day.

At eleven thirty Ted’s sister-in-law Marg graciously came by our motel and picked us up for lunch and a small tour of Tacoma. We have a light rain today so that gave us a much appreciated day out of the weather and off the bikes.

Redondo Beach

We met Marg (next to Ted) and her daughter Kathy (near right side) and Kathy's daughter Jessica (middle right side) for lunch at Salty's, a very good seafood restaurant on Redondo Beach.
Obviously Salty's will let anyone in with money!
Many of you will remember “Galloping Gertie”. This bridge crosses the Tacoma Narrows, a very narrow section of the Puget Sound with extreme currents. In 1940 this bridge collapsed when the high winds and extreme currents became too much for it to stand. It has since been replaced and a brand new bridge beside it just opened last week.

The Tacoma Dome - Is unusual because it is blue and made entirely of wood. The dome is regularly washed by hand.

Late this afternoon I removed my Jesse hard bags and adjusted and lubed the chain. I will lube it again tomorrow after it gets hot.

Tomorrow we are back in the saddle again as we head for Mt Rainier and Mt St. Helens. Our end goal is to get as close as possible to Astoria, on the northern coast of Oregon.

Ted and I would like to again thank Marg, Kathy and Jessica for joining us for lunch. The conversation and company were very much appreciated! Come to Paducah and give us a chance to return the favor!
