Valdez, AK

We left
Glennallen heading due south 119 miles to Valdez, stopping along the way to enjoy the beautiful scenery.

If you can stand monstrous size mosquitoes, the great views are at every turn.

For me, Worthington was the most impressive glacier we saw.

Bridal Veil Falls

Horse Tail Falls - Valdez, AK
Water falls are abundant on the ride through the mountains to Valdez.

The Valdez Glacier

We stopped at the Ferry Terminal in Valdez to finalize payment for our ferry ride.

Valdez Ferry Dock

People line the banks of Valdez Harbor fishing for salmon.

The Bald Eagles were fishing as well! We saw nearly two dozen eagles on this tidal flat.

Commercial Salmon Fishing Boats. The legal quota for each boat was 35,000 lbs of salmon a day.

The end of the Alaskan
Pipe Line

Tankers loading at the Valdez terminal.
Valdez, AK is the most northern US port that does not freeze. This explains why the pipeline ends here.
Tomorrow we return to a much more normal day. We leave Valdez and return to
Glennallen and on to
Tok. We'll take a break there and then ride on to Beaver Creek. Three hundred sixty three miles total.
Monday night we'll be in Beaver Creek, Yukon Territory. We will be in a different motel but the chances of Wi Fi are pretty remote.
